The area of interest within BIO-FOOD project is represented by a thematic whose results have major implications over human health and safety – Agriculture, food safety and security – due to the aspects related to traceability along food chain and to ecological character of agro-food products from raw material to finished product, destined to consumer. Preoccupations, although extremely wide, are generally channeled in the direction of eco-rendering and functionalization. Concerning the awareness increase of importance the two aspects have for society, the issue of eco-labeling increasingly imposes both at national, and at international level.
Again in the sense of consumer protection, it is evidently necessary to harmonize the legislation at national level with regulations in force at European and international level, related to substances and pesticides used in agriculture, with effects over raw material, to additives and substances used (comprehensive list of admitted substances) in foods industry.
The new context, in which the activity of food production, processing and commercialization takes place in Romania, imposed major changes regarding the legislation in the field. HG no. 924/11.08.2005 (M.O. no. 804 on 5 September 2005), ”General rules regarding food products hygiene” – transposes the provisions of European Parliament & EU Council Regulation no. 852/2004/CE (published in the Official Journal of EU no. 139 on 30 April 2004), and entered in force on 1 October 2006. Since 1 July 2005, HG 1719/2004 entered in force with full rights, specifying the obligation for businesses to include on food products labels the potential allergenic ingredients.
